Skylight (https://skylight.digital/) is at the forefront of a civic movement to reinvent how the government serves the public in a digital world.
Were looking for a Software Engineer to join our talented team of technologists in driving this movement forward.
Youll be a key part of our small, but rapidly growing team, which consists of former Presidential Innovation Fellows, founders of 18F, and members of the U.S. Digital Service.
We work in small, fast, agile teams to create exceptional customer experiences and enduring solutions out of the governments most complex design and technology challenges. The work is challenging, but highly rewarding.
Your initial engagement will be with the U.S. Air Force (USAF). The USAFs ability to efficiently and effectively supply aircrew with the most useful and usable equipment is central to its core mission of national defense. Many aircrew, however, particularly women (https://bit.ly/2JIgxGQ), face obstacles to acquiring and using the equipment that they personally need to train and combat at the highest levels of performance.
Our job is to translate the product vision that our customer has for solving this problem into a valuable, high-quality, cost-effective software solution using modern digital delivery practices and technologies. Envisioned capabilities of the product include, for example, the ability for aircrew to provide feedback on equipment issues, the ability for program/acquisition personnel to analyze this feedback, the ability for aircrew to order what they need online, and the ability for aircrew to learn how best to use equipment through online training videos.
We focus on supporting you in a variety of ways:
Profit-sharing and/or bonus opportunities
Health insurance, including medical, dental, vision, and more
401k match at 10% of your salary
Unlimited paid time-off policy
$2,000 continuing education allowance, including conference events
Incentives for living in a HUBZone area (https://maps.certify.sba.gov/hubzone/map), including relocation assistance and a monthly stipend to help offset the cost of rent or mortgage. (Read more about us being a HUBZone: https://skylight.digital/about/#hubzone.)
Time to focus on activities such as learning & development, open-source projects, and community outreach
An environment that empowers you to unleash your superpowers for public good
Note that we participate in E-Verify and upon hire, will provide the federal government with your Form I-9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in the U.S.
We are looking for an engineering leader with a “find a way or make a way” attitude who can:
Report to the CEO
Build a team of 3-4 engineers
Lead both technically and managerially
This opportunity is for someone excited for:
Breadth of responsibility
We are currently 100% Remote.
Our environment is typical of a start-up:
Small team, fast-paced, we all get a lot done by everyone wearing many hats.
We are serious about optimizing our time and staying focused on the most important goals and outcomes.
We have remote team members and are completely on board with 100% remote work.
We coordinate using a kanban board, hold a daily standup, and mostly communicate via ad hoc video calls and Slack.
Our technology is written in NodeJS and React and lives on the Google Cloud Platform.
Our technology uses NodeJS and React
We have a variety of services on different parts of Google Cloud Platform (GAE, GKE, GCF).
Build something challenging.
This isn't just another CRUD application. Your challenge will be to deliver a highly-available service on top of a dynamic collection of third-party data sources whose priority is anything other than making your job easy. Explore the limits of your own resourcefulness by designing human and automated systems that deliver true reliability in an otherwise unpredictable environment.
See if you fit our requirements.
For this role, we are looking for someone with the following characteristics:
2+ years experience building and managing a team of engineers
5-10 years experience working in back-end applications
2+ years experience working with front-end applications
Deep familiarity with ES6/NodeJS including deep understanding of promises, async/await
Bonus for familiarity with Chromium/Puppeteer and/or DOM manipulation/selection
Ability to acutely focus on company objectives and mission at hand.
Proven dedication to creating maintainable, functional, and reliable systems.
Ability to pass a background check; have appropriate work authorization
To achieve our mission, we always look for high-caliber people who share our core values:
Grit: Resilient problem solvers who finish what they start and love tackling problems of all sizes. We take critical feedback and push through to get the job done.
Collaboration: Egos can be left at home, our focus is on the best outcome, which means regularly challenging each other and being willing to be wrong.
Extreme Ownership: We sign up for big challenges and take extreme ownership to see it through. We make lemonade out of lemons when we have to and don’t let frustration get in the way of getting it done.
Curiosity: We’re passionate learners and get excited to nerd out over non-work related topics at a perhaps unnecessary level of detail.
Honesty: We’re transparent and honest because that’s the right way to treat other people. Integrity is the basis of trust, and trust is everything when you’re creating the future together.
As a fully remote team, communication is extremely important - there is no chance to drop in on interesting discussions around the water cooler or to see if someone is busy just by glancing at their desk. We have systems to signal busy-ness; regular meetings and stand-ups to disseminate information, frequent one-on-ones to ensure there are no frustrations building up, a code of conduct and a formal complaint process to resolve conflicts early-on.
As a key member of our QA team, you’ll specifically be expected to:
Design and buildtests from requirements
Attempt to reproduce issues that come in to support to then log them
Work closely with the QA Manager to ensure that time is used efficiently
Attend and contribute in weekly / monthly meetings
Suggest improvements if there are issues in the current process
Investigate issues when they are difficult to reproduce and have a hunger to get to the bottom of why something is happening
Create robust end to end tests while working closely with the developer who was responsible for that work.
Perform manual testing on different areas of the Lasso application
Perform manual testing of the entire application during pre- and post-release testing
Perform webhooks/integrations and API testing
Create test plans and test cases for new features and requirements, and/or fixes to existing bugs
Acknowledge and validate submitted tickets by both the R&D team and client services
Log any found defects and track bugs using Jira
Communicate any issues to the R&D team that require immediate attention
Work closely with other members of the QA team to prioritize work
Actively participate in QA meetings
Assist in onboarding new resources when needed
Stay on top of the industry standards of QA and promote efficiency recommendations
Assist junior members of the QA team as a mentor
Maintain documentation on manual test cases on TestRail on a regular basis
Use MySQL to run queries to look at issues that require a deeper digging in the database, and/or to confirm some data-related issues.
Deploy pending changes for subsystems from Beta to Staging only if the smoke tests pass in Beta.
Lasso’s vision is to be the technology hub for new home sales in North America by providing a unique combination of remarkable software and expert services. To achieve our vision we need great developers. That’s why we’ve created a great work environment, encouraging self-direction, personal development, and teamwork.

Ruby on Rails powers a lot of our infrastructure, and we’re always looking for talented Rails developers to help us reach the next level.
By joining our team, you’ll get the opportunity to work on many of our various Rails projects with a team of highly skilled Rails experts from around the world. At Toptal, we push the boundaries on what’s possible with Rails every single day, and we’d love for you to help us get even further. The bulk of the work we do on a daily basis is pure back-end development, but occasionally some new UI has to be wired up, so some front-end skills on your part certainly won’t hurt.
We don’t cut corners, and we don’t make compromises—we create beautifully architected Rails apps that are polished, fast, well-tested, and a joy to use.
This is a remote position that can be done from anywhere.

Take smart risks and champion new ideas.
Be comfortable with iterative and incremental development.
Be willing to help your teammates, share your knowledge with them, and learn from them.

If you love and are good at:

Our Team develops the application wherein a brand new Toptal member sets up her or his profile and gets active in the Toptal Platform — hence the name Activation. The app handles information ranging from name and profile photo to far more complex data such as skillset, portfolio, geographic location, local times across the world, and payment details.
This is an opportunity to work on a new, high-impact application, using state-of-the-art technologies alongside an excellent and friendly team.
We also expect to support the current Talent application with code written using SASS, Backbone, and Rails. On the brighter side, that application is very stable and we've been able to dedicate more than 80% of our time to the new one.
Toptal's Talent Activation Team is organized using Agile best practices. We are a small, focused, and self-contained team with a Scrum Master, a dedicated QA Engineer, a Designer, and a Product Manager. Expect to make meaningful contributions from early on, and to have continuous learning opportunities, both technical and interpersonal. As with any other position at Toptal, we offer flexible working hours and location independence. We have a daily stand-up at 10:00 AM GMT-3.

HLT was sparked by paper flashcards that Alec Whitters, Co-Founder and CEO, and his peers were using to study for their dental boards. Wouldn’t it make better sense, he thought, to use their smartphones to study? When he didn’t find an effective mobile-learning solution, he decided to create it. HLT was born. Since its start in 2012, HLT has attracted millions of learners and become the market-leading platform for mLearning applications.
HLT’s rapid growth is directly attributable to their emphasis on attracting top talent and building a culture that is nationally renowned. This includes being on Entrepreneur Magazine’s coveted “Top Company Cultures” list.
What You Will Be Doing
You will be part of the development team building our web application platform. You will be helping educate millions of people all around the world.
Who We Are Looking For
We are looking to work with the best. Our peer. Someone who learns from us as much as we learn from them. We are looking for someone bright with a proven track record in developing software for high quality, scalable applications. You understand Computer Science fundamentals such as data structures/algorithms
You work with a spirit of collaboration, especially with other teams, like design and marketing.
You have a passion for continuous learning and improvement
Other things that are helpful to know are Vue.js, Postgres, Heroku and Rails.

While our offices are in Coralville, Iowa, our developers work wherever they want. We just need you to be online and available via Slack during regular business hours. We're a team and we work as a team, so even if your preferred hours are the wee hours of morning, that doesn't work for us because we need a team player, not a lone wolf.

We're looking for someone to join our Engineering team at Zapier as an Application Security Engineer Are you interested in helping build and secure a powerful automation tool? Then read on…
We know applying for and taking on a new job at any company requires a leap of faith. We want you to feel comfortable and excited to apply at Zapier. To help share a bit more about life at Zapier, here are a few resources in addition to the job description that can give you an inside look at what life is like at Zapier. We hope you'll take the leap of faith and apply.
Zapier is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace dedicated to pursuing and hiring a diverse workforce.
Even though our job description may seem like we're looking for a specific candidate, the role inevitably ends up tailored to the person who applies and joins. Regardless of how well you feel you fit our description, we encourage you to apply if you meet these criteria:
You care deeply about building secure products in secure ways that simplify the lives of millions of people through automation.
You have web application and infrastructure security experience.Keeping the core Zapier web application secure is at the heart of this role. Zapier is a SaaS product, so experience building software and managing infrastructure under a similar model is a big plus.
You know what makes browsers and sites secure. The web browser is practically the operating system of the internet; these days nearly everything that happens online, happens in a browser. You’ll help us continue to keep customer data safe by ensuring the “first mile” is trouble-free.
You love writing software and building infrastructure. Most of what you’ll do each day is guiding, building and maintaining Zapier's infrastructure and product. You'll focus on high value, high risk portions of Zapier. You'll use code to automate and improve the more mundane parts of auditing and monitoring of internal processes, as well as in the product.
You have worked with teams before on large Python, AWS, & Kubernetes projects. You’re also familiar with some common frameworks for languages like Django, Flask, or Rails as well as React/Backbone.js. You've also worked extensively in cloud providers like AWS, GCE, or Azure
You love doing things efficiently. At Zapier, the work you do will have a disproportionate impact on the business. We believe in systems and processes that let us scale our impact to be larger than ourselves. You'll be in a unique position to find and eliminate "insecure and painful" experiences and replace them with "secure and joyful" experiences.
You love learning. Engineering is an ever-evolving world. You enjoy playing with new tech and exploring areas that you might not have experience with yet.
You love to set your own direction. At Zapier, we have one team meeting each week and one-on-one meetings every month. Between those we chat in Slack and then go make things happen.
You are friendly and patient, welcoming, considerate, and respectful. Learn more about these attributes in our code of conduct.
Things You Might Do
Zapier is a small, fast-growing, and remote-first company, so you'll likely get experience on many different projects across the organization. That said, here are some things you'll probably do:
Write some Python!
Identify where we can add more layers of defense in depth and implement them.
Periodically embed with product teams with to help with security sensitive projects.
Build internal tooling to ensure safe data access patterns for Zapier employees.
Review code across Zapier's product and infrastructure.
Locating weak points across Zapier and strengthening them.
Ship code to millions of users every week.
Experiment: this is a startup so everything can change
As part of our All Hands Support initiative, help customers have the best experience with Zapier as possible.
The Whole Package

Pick your own equipment. We'll set you up with whatever Apple laptop + monitor combo you want plus any software you need.

If you’re smart, friendly and love building software—we want to hear from you.
We’ve boot-strapped the beta version with the help of contractors – so we’re in the scrappy early stages.
The role will initially be on a part-time, contract basis. We're raising a round, we'll make you full time and pay you a full-time salary when we do.
